Carpe Diem West is evolving: We’re hitting the ‘pause’ button for 2020. With multiple social, health and environmental crises upon us, it’s time for us to step back and scout ahead for what’s next.

Our report Looking Forward - Water & Climate Change in the American West presents three top recommendations for the Western water and climate field, building on the many lessons we’ve learned over the past 14 years.

As always, our recommendations focus on the essential factors: include all key stakeholders, use smart science, choose long-term sustainability, promote equity, and build partnerships. 

As part of our evolution, this month our Healthy Headwaters Alliance comes under the umbrella of the National Wildlife Federation. This respected national conservation organization has the expertise and capacity to take the Alliance’s work to scale with national advocacy and communications and to connect the network with a diverse range of communities, interests, and partners throughout the western United States.

Helping to continue to guide the work of the Alliance is the new Healthy Headwaters Federal Policy Platform.

I remain President of the Carpe Diem West Board of Directors, and am launching this new venture that builds on the work of the past 14 years.

We are grateful for the time and expertise contributed by so many Western water and climate leaders and scientists. While Carpe Diem West is on hiatus, all of our resources and reports will continue to be available at www.carpediemwest.org.
